Dental fillings
Safeguard your teeth from cavities
Don’t leave a broken tooth untreated
Even if the damage is minimal, it can cause further issues down the road. If a broken or chipped tooth is left untreated, it can result in pain and sensitivity, as well as put other teeth at risk for damage. In addition, damaged teeth may also be more prone to decay and infection.
Restore your teeth with dental fillings
Dental fillings, also known as restorations, are necessary to replace missing tooth structures caused by decay or trauma. At Dental Paradiso, we use advanced materials for our fillings to ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing result.
Our experienced dentists will determine the best type of filling material for your needs and make sure that your teeth are restored to their full function. We also take special care to ensure minimal pain during the procedure and provide advice on how to maintain your new fillings.
If you have cavities or other dental problems, book an appointment with us today and get started on a journey towards improved oral health. We’ll help you restore your teeth and regain the confidence to show off your beautiful smile!
Types of Dental Fillings
If you ever need a tooth filling, the good news is that there are many options. Gold or white dental fillings can be used to fill cavities, depending on your preference and budget.
We will work with you individually to recommend what would be best suited based on cost and need.
Here are your choices:
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings, also referred to as resin fillings, are filling materials made of synthetic resins. Synthetic resins are dental restorative materials that can be made to look exactly like your teeth. This material is also more flexible and reduces the need for drilling, consequently preserving more of your natural teeth.
Because composite fillings are not as durable as other types, they are ideal for restorations in the sections of the mouth that engage in little or moderate chewing. They are particularly suitable for the most visible parts of your teeth, like the front teeth and can also be used to repair worn, broken, or chipped teeth.
Amalgam Fillings
Amalgam is a highly reliable tooth filling material consisting of metals such as tin, copper, and zinc. Since amalgam fillings are a combination of several metals, they are strong and can withstand the force of chewing. Hence, they are perfect for filling cavities in molar surfaces.
They are highly durable and relatively inexpensive compared to tooth-coloured composites. You can expect this type of filling to last a minimum of 10 to 15 years.
Glass Ionomer
A glass ionomer consists of a mixture of glass and acrylic material. They are special in that they are built to release fluoride, which protects the teeth from further decay. Glass ionomer is an excellent dental filling option for children. They have a shorter lifespan than other options (usually five years or less).
Ceramic Fillings
Ceramic filling materials are usually made of porcelain. Like composite fillings, ceramic fillings can also be made to match the colour of your teeth. However, they are more resistant to staining than composite fillings. While they are very durable (can last for upwards of 15 years), they are also as expensive as gold fillings.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The general procedure for cavity filling includes
- First, we apply a numbing gel to the gums.
- Local anesthesia may be administered if required for your comfort.
- Using a specialised tool, we remove the decayed section of the tooth.
- Next, we fill the hole with the filler of your choice.
- Finally, we polish and adjust the filler to ensure it sits perfectly.
